Only fifty years ago
an interesting proposition was heard in the "intellectual"
circles. It seemed that all of the knowledge of mankind had been
captured and put in book form.
"No need to print
more books" they cried. We know everything there is to know
now. Since then we've been to the moon and more.
Fast forward to the
year 2003 and, if you listen closely, you can still hear those
same voices today.
"There are too
many eBooks. No need to write more"
Hogwash.
As I write this there
are three new and very exciting eBooks on the market. Each shows
innovative thinking and shares with readers new ways to solve
old problems. And each of them was written in the last 60 days.
Just when the common
sentiment had become that the "gurus" had 'written it
all' up springs new, innovative thinkers with new ideas to propel
our businesses.
The pure fact is, we
need eBooks now more than ever.
What IS needed is new
thinking in the eBook industry and the marketing practices associated
with distributing eBooks.
In that light, I offer
you the three ways to succeed with your next eBook creation. Yes,
that's YOUR next eBook. ;)
1. Get Specific. While
it's all too easy to find eBooks by the dozen on Internet marketing,
we have yet to hear from florists on floral design, interior decorators,
pet groomers and more.
Where is it written
that to be an eBook creator you must have a 450 page doctoral
thesis on the subject of the day? People need a quick and easy
way to know how to do all sorts of things.
New Moms and Dads need
parenting advice. New University students need to learn study
skills. The list is endless.
TIP: Want to get an
idea for your next eBook, in the next 10 minutes? Stop and think
about what you do best. What skill do you have that you are especially
proud of? Now, how would you communicate that skill to your son
or daughter?
Write down what you
just thought of and you have the outline for your next eBook.
Congratulations!
2. Give it away. In
the paper book world when a first-time author makes the best-seller
list you see him or her on the television talk shows. What a genius
they are!
Yet when the average
person writes an eBook they expect to collect $29.99 from people
who have never heard their name.
If you are concerned
that people won't buy your ebook, simply give it away. You will
make more money from the "viral" aspect of a free eBook
(plus from your affiliate links inside the ebook) than from the
sales price anyway. So why not make an eBook and give it away!
If you make a list
of the top 10 'gurus' on the Web you will find that every one
of them has used this powerful marketing method.
3. Make your book interactive.
Rather than just providing static pages for people to read, include
something for them to do. Let them interact with your eBook by
filling out a form, recommending the book to a friend or even
buying a product!
The more people interact
with your eBook the more they will come to think of it as their
own. Just as we cherish the paper books we highlight and make
notes in, the eBooks we can interact with will soon become our
favorites.
Let me encourage you
to share your unique knowledge with the world today. Take the
notes you made in the exercise above, expand and polish them then
create your own eBook. Then give it away on your web site, offer
it to your list and more. Creating an ebook really isn't that
difficult.
Like planting a tree
under whose shade you will never sit, you will find that sharing
your knowledge will come back to bless you time and time again.
